Cultural appropriation

Noun

The adoption, or co-opting, usually without acknowledgement, of cultural identity markers with or originating in minority communities by people or communities with a relatively privileged status. (https://www.dictionary.com/browse/cultural-appropriation)

It is anything and everything related to identity of a minority group taken by a group of more privileged peoples. Cultural appropriation can apply to anything from hairstyles, to makeup, tattoos to language.

White people can not be culturally appropriated!!!! Historically white people have never been the oppressed minority group suppressed into submission.

Sometimes, when it comes to the line of what is cultural appropriation and not some people extend the boundaries a bit too far either direction.

There are many things that uneducated people do not realize are cultural appropriation, this includes but is not limited too: taking dishes from other cultures and putting a ‘spin’ on them that changes them completely, little things like the way Elvis danced and the way singers change there voices with a ‘blackscent’, putting chopsticks in your hair, wearing things like headdresses, bindi and henna to seem exotic, putting your hair in box braids or shaping your hair into an afro if you are white, wearing someone's culture as a costume for any reason especially if it only shows a stereotype.

Cultural appropriation is, in a simplest form of putting it, stealing, stealing from a culture that is not your own and showing those stolen things off in a way that is offensive.

Cultural appropriation should not be tolerated in any way, so do your best to avoid and call out cultural appropriation on the daily.
