Generation Z

Generation Z, the children born from 1996 to 2012, the generation continually shat on by the older generations for just about everything from our new ideas to our humor.

They mock us, call us names, and criticize our every move, like they don’t realize what they’ve done to us.

‘Why do you have to make a joke out of everything?’ We were born into a world of tragedy, most us just after the terrorist attacks on nine eleven, our childhood centered around the stock market drops of the 2000s and just about since birth we’ve had to deal with hardship after hardship, you can't blame us for wanting to cope.

You look at our fists raised in solidarity and wonder why we have to go against the system you’ve created, when it’s the system that has always held people back. A system full of injustice that is never called out, and yet we are shamed for being the first to call it out. We are talked down, for simply offering new ideas and new options for this dying world.

We call out your bs and the only thing we receive is the message saying we are weak, overly sensitive, and overreacting. But our generation isn’t the one crying over being called a ‘boomer’.

We start new projects and ideas to help this world but we are told they are useless, or stupid, that the problems we are trying to solve don’t exist, but they do exist, because you are the ones who caused them!

We create new games and apps to distract ourselves from the harsh reality of this Earth and we are mocked, we stand for what’s right and we are pushed down, we try to make a better place for our children and we are told our world is good enough, we ask our voices to be heard but we are silenced!

You ask why we always give up, or sit down, and take the heat, it is because we have no other choice! All our lives we have had our ideas smothered, you pour water on the flames of our spirits as if it is the right thing to do!

Well no longer. We will not take it!

The voice of a generation cannot be silenced by another generation who is so convinced they are right that they are blind to the reality that has befallen them.

They say that the day the old generation silences the new is the day the society is lost, but let me tell you something. You can try to shut us up or drown us out, but you listen to me, you will never control us, you will never silence our voice, even if it seems like only one of us is speaking.

Together we stand, the kids with the power to change the system, and believe me, we will.
